.....Yes, it's been over a year since I last blogged, but life has been mundane, at best..... UNTIL NOW!!!
As most of you know, Steve and I have been traveling back and forth to Atlanta every weekend for the past couple of months helping his parents get their house ready to sell and getting them settled into their new "villa" at Park Springs. Well, finally, this weekend we were able to spend a nice quiet weekend at home. Of course, it turned out anything BUT quiet. We talked about how out of control our "To Do" list had gotten and decided we needed to get some of those items checked off while we had the time. Of course, we're not sure when our arms, legs and backs will be back to normal, but here is a sampling of what we did this weekend:
Since Steve's folks moved into a much smaller place, one of the things they bestowed upon us is there old Dining Room Furniture. I've loved this furniture since they day they brought it home over 20 years ago. I always joked "When you're tired of that furniture, I'll be glad to give it a new home". Well, that day came and we are now the proud owners of TWO sets of dining room furniture.
The first order of business was to come up with a game plan, so we decided to move our "old" Oak Dining Room set into the kitchen. I really didn't think there would be room for all that furniture, but Steve convinced me it was "doable". It turned out he was right (but don't tell him I said that). So, now we have a beautiful Oak table and chairs, along with the China Cabinet and sideboard in our kitchen and it fits quite nicely, see:
So, as long as the dining room was empty, we took the opportunity to paint. We've painted it a color similar to the interior color in our house in Nashville. We always liked that color and the plan is to paint the entire interior of this house that color too. We'll see how long THAT takes..... But, I digress. So, with the room painted, we finally moved the furniture in and filled the china cabinet. I think it looks quite nice, what do you think:
And last, but not least, Steve built a low retaining wall in our back yard. Of course, I helped, but he did the majority of the heavy lifting and grunting!! We put this wall at the bottom of a slope, partly for erosion control and partly because it looks nice. The wall runs from the deck to the top of the driveway. It is about 5 blocks high at the deck end and 3 blocks high at the driveway end. The last step in this project will be sod, but we're not quite ready for that yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks when we've soothed our sore muscles a bit. What do you think about this project:
Well, besides burning up the roads, that's what we did this weekend!! Hope everyone had a happy and blessed Easter. We decided to put our feet up for the rest of the day.... do you blame us???
Steve leaves for his epic Motorcycle journey on Thursday. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he travels. At the end, Joanne and Mike Borolla will spend a night or two with us. I'm really looking forward to that!!!
